Top 10 Things To do on a Minnesota Summer Vacation

Every Minnesota family resort offers something different. At Wildwood Resort we pride ourselves on providing the perfect backdrop for your Minnesota family vacation! To us that means that our guests find clean accommodations, a safe environment, excellent customer service and a beautiful spot on Bass Lake! 2023 marks our 24th season as owners and over the course of those years we’ve developed some pretty strong opinions about what makes a perfect Minnesota summer vacation. Here’s our Top 10 Things to Do on a Minnesota Summer Vacation:

  1. Rest and relax – Life is so busy!! We rarely get the chance to have a guilt-free rest when we’re immersed in our real lives. The great thing about a MN family vacation is that rest and relaxation are inherent aspects of doing it right. Sleep late, nap on the beach and go to bed with a calm mind and an open heart.
  2. Evening Campfire – One of my favorite things about the summer season is the smell of campfire! Nearly all of our guests end their day beside a campfire. Some sing, most laugh and there are always marshmellows or S’mores.
  3. Fish – Some guests take the opportunity to spend most of their time fishing out on the lake . They are usually rewarded with at least one fish fry! Others take a more leisurly approach and do a lot of catch-and-release. The littles enjoy catching small fish off our our docks. No matter the approach it’s always great to spend time on the lake.
  4. Swim – Swimming is my favorite way to relax! There’s nothing more relaxing than spending a summer day on the water. We have a safe, sandy beach and Bass Lake is clean and clear. Swimming, tubing, waterskiing and sunbathing are always popular pasttimes.
  5. Play games or watch movies – In our normal life we rarely take time to play games or watch movies. Many of our guests enjoy cards, board games, yard games or puzzles as a way to spend time together. And the occasional rainy day provides a good excuse to snuggle up and watch a movie with the kids or grandkids!
  6. Enjoy Kids’ Activities – Twice weekly we have Activities Coordinators come in to entertain the kids. They do crafts and play games with the resort kiddos for a few hours each week of the summer. It’s fun for the kids and can offer a nice break to moms and dads!
  7. Potluck – On Monday nights in the summer we always have a resort potluck. It’s a great time to visit with us and other guests and the food is always awesome!
  8. Make new friends or renew connections – Whether you come to the resort with a group or you come with just your immediate family there are so many opportunities to connect with one another! It’s easier to renew and strengthen relationships outside of our normal environment. And on vacation it seems easier to make new acquaintences, too! Many of our longtime guests have made lifetime friendships with families they have met here at Wildwood. We believe that our families are the nicest people who come north. We’d love to welcome you, too!
  9. Take a bunch of sunset photos – Our west-facing spot on Bass Lake gives guests a front-row seat to amazing sunsets. You’ll go home with many, many pictures – each more beautiful than the one before.
  10. Enjoy the Grand Rapids, MN area – Grand Rapids is a great community! There are fabulous restaurants, shopping and area attractions. From golf to movies to natural wonders – you’ll find it all here.
